Seen in a Different Way

This morning on my way to work
I saw the world a different way
Greeted by green pastures and trees
The same ones I pass day after day

Along a graveled road that winds
Between rolling hills of velvet green
A paradise filled with beauty
Just waiting to be felt and seen

As bright morning sun creeps aloft
Nesting songbirds sing what’s in their heart
A cloudless sky hangs overhead
While wildflowers display their art

Sheep and cattle quietly graze
Beneath plantations of spruce and pine
So thankful for the time I’ve had
And treat it all as if it were mine

Pond Music (Barnes Hill Pond)

One long summer day
All alone to myself
I put work aside
Out of sight on a shelf

Went up to the pond
Where a cool breeze does blow
To hear the birds sing
Singing songs that I know

The bullfrogs and bees
Busy doing what they do
Dragonflies resting
On grass covered with dew

Down from the mountains
A cool wind blew its breeze
While on its way by
Gently brushing the trees

Cattails and lupine
To dress Barnes Hill Pond
Gives you a feeling
Not all treasures are gone

October Morning

The scent of last night’s rain
Lingers in the morning air
Wet leaves blanket the ground
The trees are now dark and bare

The sound of honking geese
Some where barely out of sight
Hints of colder weather
Shorter days and longer nights

Frost will pay a visit
On a quiet star filled night
Leaving icy crystals
In October morning’s light

Pumpkins on the front porch
It’s the cutting of the corn
Leaves swept from the trees
All gifts from October morn

A Visit With an Old Friend

The morning sun breaks the horizon
To greet me with hello
Displaying its awesome beauty
On the shimmering sea below

We like to sit and quietly watch
The tide come slowly in
Wonder about each crashing wave
And where the salty sea has been

Each morning we stroll the sandy beach
Fresh brewed coffee in hand
Serenaded by waddling gulls
Leaving our footprints in the sand

We search for treasures left on the beach
Given up by the sea
Little shells and smooth round stones
Worth a fortune to you and me

Though our time here is almost over
We’re sad to see it end
But always leave with the feeling
That we have spent our time with a friend (sea)

Listening to the Trees

I came to listen carefully
To what the old trees would say,
Knowing that they had wintered well
And new leaves were on the way.

The morning sun lay on the bark
Trees weathered by the seasons,
Would need to lose a few worn limbs
Wet snow and wind the reasons.

Limbs and leaves will provide cool shade
To shelter the place I’ll sit
And listen to the summer winds
Blow songs and secrets through it.

Let nature’s peace sweep over you,
As the sun flows into trees,
Drop all your worries from within
Like leaves float on autumn breeze.

Daybreak

Daybreak hits the window
My alarm clock is the birds
Climbing from a cozy bed
I’m at a loss for words

Nothing can quite compare
To the stillness brought at dawn
Only broken by the songbirds
Pulling worms from the dampened lawn

So many different musical notes
Echoes bouncing from tree to tree
I think they are trying to say
God’s made another day just for me
